Maricopa, Arizona is in Pinal County in the Gila River Valley. It lies on the southern banks of the Gila River. Many immigrants found it to be a haven as they traveled the southern trail across Arizona to the gold fields in California. This historic city is bordered by two Native American communities and celebrates the spirit of the Native Americans that are its neighbors. It is surrounded by mountain ranges, making it almost hidden in the Sonoran Desert. Maricopa was incorporated in 2003 and has an approximate population of 47,000.
There are many cultural things to take advantage of that honor the Native American communities. The HuHuGam Heritage Center is a wonderful tribal facility to visit. There are fine displays of cultural artifacts and art from the Gila River Indian Community. The Him Dak Eco Museum displays historic artifacts from the Ak-Chin Community. If you want to visit a golf course that isn’t typical to the desert, check out the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. The course was designed by Fred Couples and is framed by eucalyptus trees, is well-maintained and has natural open areas and sand that can influence shots. Unique to the area is the Dwarf Car Museum. The operator of the museum makes replicas of cars in a scaled down version. Some have even been raced. All of the vehicles are in working order and licensed in Arizona. His shop is open to the public, so you can visit as he works on them. If you visit you will want to take your time to see it all.
Typical to the area, much of the real estate is the Santa Fe style. You will find large lots, multi-levels and well-manicured lawns. The area is a mix of industrial, agricultural and developments. The diversity of the area lends to many different experiences, depending on where in town you are. Residents are quick to say that it has a feel of friendliness. It is a quiet town and a great place to have fun with your family and take part in local events. But, being only about half an hour from Phoenix, you have easy access to big city amenities. When you take that all into consideration, this is a must-consider destination for home buyers searching in the Phoenix area.
